2268 Shek O Beach on the Hong Kong coast may look like a rustic old world village, filled with ancient Eastern culture; that is, until you begin spotting the million dollar Western-style mansions nestled throughout hills. Shi Bao Tu was born and raised here, in this wealthy section of Hong Kong, and in his eighteen years of life he had attended the finest schools and received private tutors in everything from music to dance to proper etiquette for a young man of status. Suffice it to say, he hated his life, correction; he hated the life his family was creating for him. Even his 6’3 body was not his own doing, it, (and I use the term “it” deliberately for young master Bao truly did consider it something alien and unnatural) having been molded and chiseled through a strict diet and hours in the mansion’s gym along with the mansion’s resident slave driver, or as it said in his job description, “Personal Trainer”. Bao, though, had been born with a rare gift. He could not alter space and time, or change his form, or even read minds. But he could be still. Bao had been born with peace in his soul. He had managed to keep this part of himself preserved over the years. It was this part that prevented him from lashing out at his instructors, parents, and even the world at large. Even when he overheard his parents commenting that he was too weak and forgiving to ever truly be a son they could be proud of, he stayed quiet. Yet even peace cannot last forever. Over the years, Bao’s confidence and self-esteem had been worn down; he was ready to give up and accept the life that was being prepared for him. To give up kindness and charity, and to become the hard, cruel person his family wanted. As his final goodbye to what little freedom he had managed to hold on to, he got undressed and went for one last morning swim in the ocean…

2322Similar, to Shek O Beach, but only in its contrast, is Malibu. At first glance, one sees nothing but the homes of some of the west coast’s most influential people, but look deeper, and you’ll see families that have been there for decades; people of average means who live in modest homes built by their grandparents, when the land was still new and untouched. Little fourteen year old Kamakani Rossi was the grandchild of one of these couples, his name showing his lineage of Italian and Hawaiian descent. In the sandy world of surfers, stoners and sun worshipers, he stood out. Excelling at everything he did, every sport, every assignment, and every challenge. Young Kama, like Bao, had also been born with a gift. One more common, but as history has shown, infinitely more dangerous: Ambition. His friends and neighbors would always ask him why he was in such a rush at such a young age. They would laugh as they made jokes calling him “The Tanned Napoleon” and that Kama wanted nothing short of world domination by his 21st birthday. Sometimes though, they were frightened by his need for success and his competitiveness. They would tell him to stop and enjoy life, instead of taking it head-on, every single day, as if it was a war to be waged. Kama usually just smiled and ran off to his next lesson, match, or competition. In his private moments, however, he did contemplate their words, and in truth, he could find no reason for the fire that burned so fiercely inside him. He thought, one day, this fire might consume him. These moments were few and far between, as his schedule demanded he keep pace or fall behind. This time his mind was brought back to reality by the bells of the grandfather clock downstairs; it was time for his afternoon 1K swim in the ocean.

So it was; two communities, separated by an ocean, but twins in deception and maybe something more.

Bao floated on his back a few meters from the shore and enjoyed the water and smell of the ocean. Kama ran into the waves, knees high, and swam out past the buoys, and began his stroke.

Half an hour passed; Bao drifting on the surface of the water, and Kama powering through his routine.

Bao stopped floating and righted himself, treading water. He began to wonder how he had come to this point in his life, how could he ever allow himself to become a cold, calculating person. Kama became distracted and his stroke faltered. He stopped and began to tread water. This question of “why” ate him at this moment. Why did he try so hard, and ignore so many people. The question circled around him again and again, creating knots in his stomach. Out in the ocean, far from the shore, from comfort, or from any soul, it crippled his confidence and alone in the water he began to cry and felt fear of what he was.

From the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, two tendrils of hot, nutrient-enriched, water shot out in opposite directions. Military and scientific vessels recorded all natural sound stopping, not a single whale song or dolphin click was heard in the Pacific at that moment in time. All that was recorded was the fear of the crews aboard and then static. When later asked to describe it some said it was the sound of an earthquake, others said it was like the whine of a tornado, or howl of a hurricane, one submarine captain described it as “Nature itself, speaking”.

Bao felt the water around him grow warmer until it became uncomfortably so, hot even. He saw bubbles begin to form. He saw a straight path of water ahead of him begin to boil. Bao turned and swam for the shore; he swam harder than he had ever done in his life. He called out for help, but realized it was too early in the morning for other people to be out, he was alone. He felt his feet touch the sand; he was only a meter or two from the shore, when he saw the boiling water overtake him. His body seized and every muscle tensed. He could not move. He tried to scream but water forced its way into his stomach and lungs. He felt the boiling water force its way into him from inside his trunks. He was sure death was about to take him, when he felt himself move. Faster and faster he felt the water rushing by him. Bao tried to move again, but could not, all he could see was water and bubbles.

Kama did not even see the water coming for him. All he felt was his body grow warm. When he lifted his head from crying to look around the boiling water had already encircled him. It pulled him beneath the surface, tossed him about and invaded his body. Lastly, it speed him out to see.

It only took a matter of minutes for both boys to travel from their coasts to the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and only a few seconds more to make the decent to the seafloor, where their burned and bruised bodies collided in the rushing water. Instinctively, they held on to each other, hot, red skin pressed against hot, red skin. The light from the geothermal plumes gave everything an eerie orange glow and kept the water at a hospitable temperature. All around them the water seemed to be alive, as it began creating a dome of air. In the protection of the dome, for the first time they let go and looked at each other. Each could the other had already gone through a similar ordeal. The same thought was running through both their minds, they had been under the surface far too long, they shouldn’t be alive. The dome began to pulse and contract. There were plumes in the dome with them. The boys watched as they bubbled with lava and began to fill the dome with their smoke. The dome began to shake and tremble. Both boys were crying now. They latched on to each, little Kama resting his head against strong Bao’s chest, as the dome collapsed. They felt the water rush around them and pull at them, but neither would let go. The plumes rumbled and groaned, as if in frustration at the boys’ stubbornness. As the boys held on to each other, they no longer felt alone or scared, they could see inside each other, each boy saw in the other what they were missing, what they needed, to be whole. They reached inside each other and felt what it meant to be calm and quick at the same time. What life could be like if they learned how to strive, while being content. They saw each other’s minds and memories, and felt what the other had felt every day of his life. They clutched each other one last time, not out of fear, but as a goodbye, and then they let go.

2346The current shot the boys back towards the shores, only this time, the boys did not fight it with either their bodies or their will. This time, it felt as if they were flying underwater, moving faster than anything that had ever swam these seas before. It was enjoyment, exhilaration, ecstasy: it was all of these things in their purest form. At last, they broke the surface, gasping the air, and stumbled out of the water. They could still feel each other inside their minds; they still felt connected and comforted, like the other person was right beside them. Each boy recognized the beach they were on as a place from the other’s memory. Kama in Hong Kong laughed out loud, the image of a naked Bao on his own Malibu beach popped into his head. Bao, in Malibu, turned around at the sound of Kama’s laughter, and realized his suit had been ripped off during the trip. Bao pictured Kama being thankful he had worn a pair of speedos beneath his own suit. But right now, Bao didn’t care, he was thankful to be alive, and he felt new and refreshed. Kama also felt this feeling wash over him. Both boys laid down in the shallow water and felt the sun tingle all over their skin. The boys moaned and let their heads roll on their shoulders’; the sun had never felt this good, this warm, before. The sensation only intensified as they lay there, on opposite sides of the ocean, yet right next to each other. Kama could her Bao moan louder and gasp. He saw Bao writhing in the sand and roll over on to his hands, Bao’s member now swelling. Bao felt Kama watching him, and soon heard the smaller boy join in with his own moans. Kama stood up and held on to a pier pillar as his own body reacted. The line between the two boys mind’s blurred again.

Bao felt his muscles contracting, wrapping themselves tighter around his long frame; his skin felt cool and seemed to release some kind of pressure, as if he had taken off a second skin or opened some kind of release valve.

2320Kama felt the opposite, his muscles felt loose, but seemed to be growing heavy on him, sharpening their definition on his small body. He suddenly felt heavy, like he had been dipped into a warm, thick, viscous liquid.

Bao felt pressure being released from his face, as Kama felt it grow. The boys moaned together, as they felt the hairs on their body stand on end and fall back down. Bao examined his lighter, blonder body hair, as Kama ran his hands through his dark pubic hair.

The boys felt their erections growing and changing. They lay on the beach, letting their new hands roam all over their new bodies and giving into the invisible force that was pleasing their senses. They felt the end approaching. Bao started first, and began releasing himself into the ocean, thrusting forward. Each time his whole body dedicated itself to the act. The sensation rolled through him and into every bone in his body. Kama lay in the ocean and started, only his felt so much more different than anything he had experienced. His mind was overloaded with the pleasure wrought from pulling back, as if he was taking something warm in, instead of releasing. This warmth radiated from his member and up to his spine and into every other part of his body. Finally, it ended. The boys lay there on the beach, miles apart, but shoulder to shoulder. They rolled over, as if to see the other laying next to him. Instead, they saw themselves in their mind’s eye. The boys stood up, and examined their new bodies. Kama had gained the height, the muscle, and the face of Bao. He had in fact, gained Bao. Bao was making the same discovery, he was now in position of little Kama’s body. Beyond that, they were in possession of the other’s spirit, their essence. They were shared. Both boys smiled from ear to ear. Kama, in Hong Kong, knew he had the strength of will to fight Bao’s parents, he also had the resources to pull ahead in the world, but coupled with the wisdom that is necessary for happiness. Bao, in Malibu, felt a light shine inside him, and he felt it grow and touch everything around him, he felt a new energy inside him. He could do anything, be anything, in this new world. He could go at his own pace, and now, he felt he had true opportunities and the freedom to pursue what he wanted. Bao looked to an invisible presence to his left, and Kama did the same to his right. They walked up the beaches and back to their new lives, together.

It didn’t take long for industrious little Kama in Bao’s large, muscular body to establish his will in his Hong Kong home. His new parents were outwardly thankful for their son’s new confidence and interest in financial matters, but were intimidated by it as well, realizing how obedient and kind their son had once been. It wasn’t that he was cruel or harsh to them now, but they now felt as if their son had surpassed them, and felt small when he was around. Kama in his new life, loved the business competition in Hong Kong, but never pushed himself too far, and took frequent vacations and learned to enjoy the simple things in life.

As for Bao, while before his appearance and size had kept people at a distance, his new smaller body welcomed people. He finally felt the warmth of a parent, as he frequently gave hugs to his new parents and his extended beach family, who had all noticed a change in the boy who had once been to busy to embrace anyone, even his own mother. Bao went through Kama’s calendar and cancelled a fair number of the extracurriculars he had been involved in, but kept some as to feed this little fire that now dwelt inside him. Bao learned how to surf, and enjoyed just hanging out with friends who had sorely missed him. He even learned how to sing with his new soprano voice, which was so different from his old bass.

Within a month of their transformation Kama had used his new resources to find his way back to Malibu and he and Bao meet for the first time, under normal circumstances that is. They had never really been apart, though, but it was pleasing for them to look to their side and actually see someone there. They told each other about the month that had passed, all the changes they had made, and how happy they had become. Kama set up a small account for Bao to use. Well, small in relation to Kama’s own massive assets. They would be able to meet whenever they wanted. Kama and Bao became fast friends in reality, and often spent time with each other. After all, when you’re given the perfect life, and it once belonged to someone else, it’s the sorta thing you tend to bond over.
