Cape Cross (Punta Kriza) gay nude beach (ex-Monsena)

Important: MONSENA naturist resort closes the doors for naturists. From 2005 this area is conducted under another name (Amarin) as a textile resort. It was a sad news because Monsena resort and its guests were known for their liberal policy toward single and gay guests.

Areal view

Transformation of Monsena nudist resort into Amarin textile resort affected the gay nude beach as well. Former gay nude beach was located right next to Monsena (now Amarin) and south of improvised restaurants. Today the gay nude beach has moved a bit further to the north, between improvised restaurants and Valalta naturist resort. New location is at the Cape Cross (local name Punta Kriza). It is a rocky beach and reports say that the new location didn't affect it's popularity. It is still one of the most popular gay nude beaches in Croatia.

Amarin

To get there drive to Amarin resort. You can park your car on the parking lot in front of the resort's reception. Behind the parking there is a small dirt road. From there there is about 2 km of walking until you reach the end of the road where big nude beach begins. You can also drive on the dirt road and park your car close to the improvised restaurants (see photos above).

Rovinj Punta Kriza

Gay beach is often visited by local and foreign, especially Italian, gay men and on weekends also by many guys from Zagreb and Slovenia. Wood above the gay beach is usually very cruisy especially on summers late afternoons but sometimes same goes for the beach as well.

Crveni Otok (Red Island) nude beach

Crveni Otok is an islet opposite Rovinj. This is in fact two islets connected by a narrow path. One of the islets has hotels and many other facilities (St. Andrews) and the other one (Maskin) is naturist. Nude islet is mostly used by straight naturists, but some gay men can be found as well. The nude beach is equipped with showers and a restaurant.

You can find a really large number of beaches on the island. They are mainly stony beaches with typical coves covered with pebbles. The beaches on Maskin islet are stony or rocky, with gentle rifts and small bays. The most frequented ones are situated near the snack bar on the south side of the islet, which offers no other services.
Red Island is a fifteen-minute sail away from the town center. Taxi boats arrive from and depart for Red Island every hour, from a small pier on the main town square, and from Delfin pier.

Skaraba beach

Skaraba Cape is located around 3 km from the town center. Its location within the park-forest “Golden Cape” (“Zlatni rt”, "Punta Corrente") gives it a special charm. Skaraba Cape can be reached by car, which can be left at the parking lot near the MONVI amusement center or Kuvi bay (see map). A nice, enjoyable walk will take you from the parking lot to the beaches. You may as well decide to come with a bicycle since the whole coast, all the way to the very center of Rovinj, is connected with paths for walkers and bicycle riders that have been put in place and that start at the coast of Lone Bay, close to the Hotel Eden..

Skaraba

The coast is mostly rocky with a few small bays covered with small round stones. In the western part there are several beaches with somewhat higher rocks suitable for diving.

Skaraba

Gay section (large rocky plateaus) is between Skaraba and Villas Rubin tourist settlement.

Villas Rubin beach

From Villas Rubin down to the south, there are several points that might be of interest for gay people.

Villas Rubin Beach is located within the tourist locality BGW & APP Villas Rubin, which is 3 km away from the towncenter of Rovinj and it stretches as far as 1,5 km along the coastline.
There is a nudist beach at the northern end of Villas Rubin and which take up the entire Cape of the mostly stony coast (around 300 m). They end in the next bay covered with small round stones where there is also a small mole. This is at the same time the end of the tourist locality where you can refresh yourself in the restaurant that is situated in the pleasant shade of the conifer trees.

Polari - Punta Eva textile and nudist camping and the beach

Polari Bay and Cape Eva (Punta Eva - naturism) are 3km away from the towncenter, located within the campsite Polari, and they stretch as far as 2 km to the south of BGW & APP Villas Rubin. Part of camping Polari is reserved for nudists and reports say that gay men and couples are welcome there.
For the most part the coast in this area is stony and some beaches are paved with cobble stones in order to make the access to the sea easier.
On the northern side of Polari Bay, along the border with Villas Rubin, a pebble beach is located popular with families with children.

Poalri beaches

When going down to the southern part of Polari Bay, you will come to a little quay and a little port which is available for use for guests of the campsite. In this part the coast is stony and it's not easy to go into the water or to find a place for a sunbath.
After Polari Bay there is Cape Eve (Punta Eva), a nudism beach which streches as far as to the end of the campsite and is frequently visited by gay people. Punta Eva is not a strict nudist beach, since it isn't isolated from the other parts of the campsite so that it might happen that people in bathing costumes pass by or swim there.
You can drive to Polari fallowing the road signs from Rovinj, or you can walk there. From the town walk past Hotel Park and marina and continue along coastal walkway to the end of the paved surface. From Hotel Eden go down past the swimming pool and out the back gates. You should then be able to find small footpaths through the woods which will follow the shore quite closely.
The paths are narrow and rough but navigable and with a bit of searching you should be able to find somewhere though it may be rough and rocky.
If you keep going still further you will eventually pass the Villas Rubin and come to the Polari naturist camp site. There the beach has had shingle dumped and levelled and is much more comfortable. This was about 45 mins walk from Eden.

Wild beaches south of Vestar

South of Vestar camping, which is south of Polari, is the coast where the so-called wild beaches start, that is beaches, where there are no sports grounds, sanitary facilities and neither gastronomic nor other services. The beaches are mainly stony with a difficult access to the sea, but every 50 to 100 meters there are more accessible little bays that are more attractive for those people who wish to spend their summer holiday dipped in nature, peace and quiet.
It is not necessary to emphasize that the beaches south of Vestar are suitable for nudists. Since there are no «written rules», it is up to you to chose what you prefer most.
CisternaThe beaches in Cisterna and Bacvice Bay are the most beautiful beaches at the entire southern coast of Rovinj. These are two quite big bays with beautiful gravels as white as snow and some 10 meters in the sea there is a sandbank on which you can stand at low tide.

GistinjaSince Cisterna Bay is very well attended, we suggest that nudists look for the nearby bays where they will find peace and intimacy, like Gustinja Bay, Gustinja Cape or Dagita Bay.
To reach this part of the coast, you can walk from Polari or Vestar or you can drive. If driving, take the road to Pula. When you reach the locality Kokuletovica (which is 4 km away from the town center) you have to turn right and follow the road until the campsite Vestar.
Gustinja CapeIn order to be able to continue to area south of Vestar you have to take the unasphalted logging path which turns left some ten meters before the campsite entry, after which you follow the path, turning right at every crossroads. Every year this path is renovated, holes are patched up and the vegetation is trimmed so that you won't damage your vehicle, although you have to be careful while parking close to bushes and low trees.
